Notes from Indiapack 2015

A PrintWeek India scribe scours the stalls and spots some interesting innovations. Some of the conversations this scribe heard or overheard were about woven PP Bag and a new grade of shrink film. Also, he was privy to a heated debate at the Food Court on PP or to PE or to EPP (expanded polypropylene). Then he watched others marvel at the waterproof cement bag at the Uflex stall.

Uflex
Speaking of Uflex, the action in aseptic packaging is gaining traction. On the eve of the show, the breaking news was the Uflex plan to set up a Rs 1500-crore factory at Sanand, Gujarat. This underscores the importance of the liquid packaging business. The Uflex representative said that “the liquid packaging business has a tremendous potential not only in India but also globally.”

India should witness a 20% growth in this segment. At present, the Indian market stands at eight billion packs made out of this packaging material per year. This would double in the next five years. Curiously enough, Pakistan consumes double the number of packs than India. And China produces 80 billion packs per year. A long march ahead for India.

Zip-Pack
We live in an age of anti- static zipper bags, tamper- proof bottom open pp and re-sealable, flexible zipper package. In that sense, the Zip-Pak stall is an interesting one. David F Atkinson, vice-president and general manager, Zip Pak, was showing demos of a zipper packaging equipment.

Atkinson said, “There are two layers which are pasted, post the packing. One, there is a single layer pasted on the pack, after which on the first layer there is a zip layer pasted because of which it is difficult to tear the packet apart.” This is a nifty kit, which can be retrofitted to existing form/fill/seal equipment and thereby ensure faster, cost-effective zipper implementation.

Zip-Pak Systems produces zipper applicators and technologies to serve original equipment manufacturers, converters, and packagers worldwide.

Megha Mehta
The second company was Mokshart Print Production and E Design Studio, both companies under one roof. Megha Mehta, founder and CEO of E Design Studio, who renders very original graphic design work for clients, ranging from petrochemical and manufacturing to the real estate sector plus food and fashion design.

Mehta’s work includes packaging design for Befree Sanitary Napkins to Aviation Business Services.

This includes elements from the stationery to the pamphlets to the brochures. She said, “We cater to all the clients from doing creative job until the packaging of the product.”

E Design Studio has a tie-up with Mokshart Print Production and together they address the client requirement; and guarantee brand extension. The name of the packaging game is to be chic and cool.

Vikas Packaging
The third stall was Vikas Packaging from New Delhi, manufacturers and suppliers of corrugated boxes, exporter of cartons and designer of boxes. Vikas Gupta, owner of the firm said, “My father is the owner of the company. We design all type of corrugated boxes, like pizza boxes and mono cartons and folding cartons, master cartons, E-Flute boxes, etc.”

The clients range from Asian Development Bank to Bata. What is interesting at the Vikas stall was the structure of the boxes. These ranged from half slotted box to regular slotted boxes to a full flap five line box to a locking cover box and so on.
