The printer already owns two presses from Heidelberg.

Indernarain Mittal, owner, Narain Printers, said, “Since we already own two presses from Heidelberg, we were sure about the specs and nuances of the machine in detail. The reason to procure a SM 102 was because we felt the machine was sturdier and suffers fewer breakdowns.”

Mittal believes that since the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has been initiated, the book printers have been opened up to the huge demand for mono and multi-coloured books for children. Narain Printers earlier had the capacity to produce around 50,000 books. With the new SM 102, Mittal feels that he would be able to add another 10,000 books to the total capacity of the unit.

Asked why he installed a press when the new sessions are just months away, Mittal said, “This press has been installed with a view to cater to the demand for books in the 2013-14 sessions of the schools. The reason why we opted for a five colour press is because the turnover from printing multicolour books is much more than what we can attain from mono-colour. This is especially due to the high price war in the mono-colour book printing segment.”

The unit also houses several binding and cutting machine along with a CTP machine that consumes around 500 plates per day. On an average, each press utilises around 50,000 sheets of paper.

Apart from books the printer also engages in producing calendar, packaging materials and other business collaterals.
