There are nine KM digital production presses installed in Goa, Xerox has 12, five of which are Xerox 1000, and one HP Indigo. According to Sham Sunder Domunji, senior manager for sales at Monotech’s Bengaluru office, Multicolor has booked four orders for KM presses, which will be installed by Monotech in the next few weeks.

To mark the tie-up, both the companies collaborated to host a two-day exhibition to showcase Konica Minolta digital production presses, Canon large-format printers and Scodix press. At the exhibition, Konica Minolta will be offering 10gms of gold to those placing orders for it presses with initial advance payment, as a special incentive.

“We have displayed two Konica Minolta presses – the C6000 and C70hc presses and one Canon large-format press,” said Domunji.  “The C6000 is aimed at offset printing companies, while the C70hc is aimed at the photo colour labs.”

According to Domunji, there are around 100 colour labs across Goa, half of which run Noritsu printers producing 5-6 photo-albums each per day while the remaining supply 50-60 albums per day using digital print technology. Two large digital print specialists in Panjim print 25-30 digital print albums per day. The other 25-30 is sourced from digital printers in Bengaluru. “The KM C70hc is nicely placed for the Goan photo album, particularly with its ability to print CMYK plus RGB. We are targeting those photo album players, who source their print from Bengaluru.”

The KM C6000 is a CMYK press and is useful for short-run as well as digital proofing.

There are around 120 offset presses with around 10% running one or more four-colour press. “These presses can afford to by a Xerox or an HP Indigo, it’s the other 90% offset operations that we are looking to target with the affordable C6000 digital press,” said Domunji. “Goa is a big market for short-run, presently catered to by the single- and two-colour presses,” said Domunji.
