Lokmat opts for inspection system from IWare

The company is a global IT services and solutions provider and has been providing services to its customers since 2000.

 

Iware colour registration system is built with a high-speed colour camera helps to automate colour register management both during start-up and throughout the print run. The software operates by real-time monitoring of register marks, located on the print web that provides the feedback to manage tight control of the loop and minimise wastage.

 

Rajesh Kumar V N and Afsal Kottal, directors of Iware solutions said, “Intelligent Color Register Control Solution is engineered specifically to improve quality and minimize the waste associated with makeready, startups, stops, tension upsets and splices. The fully automatic, optimum scanning technology allows sequential control for a fast production start and also key colour control for the optimum production quality.”

 

“Waste accrues mainly when process conditions change in the printing press. This includes changes in the machine speed and reel changes etc. The ICRS system optimises these processes by always adapting itself automatically with fast response and by using multiple commands facility,” explained Kottal and Rajesh Kumar.

 

Commenting on the decision to invest in the system, Neeraj Mahajan, vice president-technical at Lokmat Media said, “The solutions provided by similar software developers were not concrete, expensive and was not customised according to our requirements. Iware software provided us with cost-effective solutions and resulted in the reduction of wastage from 300-400 pages in a single system at the time of splicing on the 2C unit to almost zero.” Importantly, start up waste has been reduced by 50% on the pressline.

“Also, the hardware and software solution is fairly simple and can also be locally fixed if any issues by our engineers. There is some training for the same which will be our next step”, informed Mahajan. These systems are currently mounted on the Manugraph machines installed at the facility.

Mahajan added, “The overall service of the Iware team has been good. It has been coupled with a customised solution, with flexibility in payments favoured our decision to go ahead with the embedded hardware and software solution from Iware Solutions.”

The Iware system has now been installed across Lokmat’s three sites among 12 print production plants spread across Maharashtra. Two units have been installed at Kolhapur, three systems at Nagpur and four systems at Pune plant.
