The half-day seminar is packed with presentations from raw material suppliers, printing ink equipment manufacturers, and a high-powered panel discussion with A Venkatrangan, director of Huhtamaki-PPL and Niten Shah, managing director of Award Packaging making individual presentations on the journey of rigid and flexible packaging. This will be followed by an interactive session, moderated by Kampani and Ramu Ramanathan, group editor at Haymarket Media India.

According to estimates, the total consumption of the offset, packaging, screen printing, special inks and coating in India is said to be in the region of 20,000 tonnes per month. The market, which was pegged at Rs 1,000-crore in 2002-03 has grown to an estimated Rs 3,500-crore in 2013-14.

“It would be interesting to understand the trends and role of flexible packaging in different categories of packaging and printing to the Indian context,” Kampani said.

The seminar will commence at 2.30pm and will continue till 6.30pm.

The AIPIMA is also hosting its ninth edition of Asia Coat+Ink Show 2015 in March. Vimal Mehra, chairman of the show, said, “The speeds of presses, from letterpress to offset has touched 18,000sph while the web from 5,000 to 80,000 sheets per hour. The ink suppliers have to come up with improved inks to achieve these speeds,” he said.

The packaging products are not only being used and sold in urban but also rural areas. The shelf life and exposure to weather time is getting longer. The products have to withstand these changes.

“These are the challenges the liquid inks, offset inks, metal decoration inks, screen inks are working upon with the help of raw material suppliers,” said Mehra.
