New Delhi-based Chanakya Mudrak has opted for the second Scodix S74 digital embossing machine in the country.

The machine will be supplied by the Indian distributor of Scodix machines, Monotech Systems in the month of March.

Inder Kumar, director, Chanakya Mudrak, said, “This technology in Drupa 2012 impressed me a lot. Since then, I was working on this project and finally, invested in it. We opted for this machine to create new parameters of quality. This technology will make print more appealing and our customers will feel the product rather than just see it.”

Amritpal Singh Bawa, national head application and software division, Monotech Systems, said, “This installation proves that our technology is really making a difference to print service companies. They are adventurous, creative and enjoy pushing the boundaries of print production and Scodix technology is perfect to help them to do that."

“At a very basic level, one can say it is a wonderful replacement for spot UV as the gloss level it delivers is far superior. But in reality, this technology offers much more and we will prove that through our work to our customers. It not only gives gloss but also texture and depth to the print.  In a normal die-embossing process, the back side of the sheet has a negative impression. This limits the applications possible on the back side. But digital embossing delivers a perfectly flat back side.

In addition, the digital embosser is also good for proofing. Apart from turning around 500 sheets per hour, it can accept both digital and offset printed sheets. Coated, uncoated and laminated paper and boards can be used in addition to other synthetic materials. Even though it is an offline process, it can deliver accurate registration. The maximum sheet size it can handle is 20x29-inch (B2),” explained Kumar.

“It is a new technology. Designers will have to understand the capabilities and creative will have to be evolved with that in mind. Hence, all of our existing customers will be on radar including design houses, advertising agencies and offset printers, as we do not have facility to print B2 size. It will be not an easy task to get jobs for Scodix but we are very confident with our earlier experience with Indigo. We will go customers, spread awareness and create a niche market for the various types of embossing we can achieve with this machine,” added, Kumar.

Established in 1985, Chanakya Mudrak is a family-owned fully-digitised printing company. The more than 25 years old commercial printer undertakes commercial digital  printing works including visiting cards, books, calendars, loyalty cards and many others on the entire range of printable media. Printing on special media is a speciality. The entire 4000 sqft printing facility runs under one roof and employs less than 10 people.

A HP Indigo 3500 digital production press in its pressroom handles almost all of the printing jobs of the company. Comparing the digital and offset technology, he said, “I believe that the coming time is for digital technology, and that’s why we opted for HP Indigo. The volume determines the technology. With increasing adoption of on-demand print jobs, digital is going to play a very big role.”

“No credit and good jobs, keep me running,” he concluded.
