India’s first lifestyle magazine for the visually challenged

White Print, the only lifestyle magazine in Braille, is the brainchild of the 24-year old, Upasana Makati. The young entrepreneur intends to bring to the visually challenged the latest in the lifestyle segment; from travel to house decor to fashion trends to politics.

The magazine was launched in May 2013, after Makati decided to unshackle from her responsibilities at a PR firm and be self-employed. The 64-page monthly magazine is printed at the National Association for the Blind (NAB) and has a print run of 300 copies.

“When you or me seek an option for a magazine title, a number of titles come to the mind. However, a general-interest magazine title for this differently abled audience is difficult to think of,” reasoned Makati.

Like the ‘mainstream’ titles, the challenges ahead of Makati, is that of roping in advertisers. “Seven months into the segment, the experience to publish a title like this is very fulfilling. However, the advertisers are hesitant but with names like Raymond, Tata and no, Coca-Cola, I am looking forward to more participation,” concluded Makati.
