Hindu confirms DiamondSpirit is in production at Coimbatore

Kasturi & Sons has confirmed that the 4x1 newspaper offset press DiamondSpirit from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has been in production since January 2010 at their new Coimbatore plant in India.

DiamondSpirit press purchased by Kasturi & Sons. The purchase was based on the successful operations of the company's previously installed presses in Hyderabad and Chennai.

Kasturi & Sons, headquartered in Chennai, publishes The Hindu, a daily newspaper with a circulation of more than 1.4 million copies per day. In addition the company also owns, publishes and prints a daily business newspaper, Business Line, a weekly sports magazine, Sportstar, and a fortnightly current affairs magazine, Frontline.

According to Kasturi Balaji, managing director of Kasturi & Sons, "When we took ROI, production reliability and uniform print quality all into account, we found that the highly automated, state-of-the-art 4x1 double width press was the perfect match for medium-sized printing plants like our Coimbatore plant."

The DiamondSpirit press installed at the Coimbatore plant is rated at 75,000 cph with a cutoff of 546mm (21.5-in) and a web width of 1,397mm (55-in). The press is configured with two 4/4 tower printing units, one 1/1 tower printing units, one 2:2 double rotary folder, three reel stands and future provisions for coldset/heatset hybrid printing.

The press is operated by the Mitsubishi press control system with automated features that include press presetting, ink presetting with CTP interface, colour register control and dual web tension control.
