Early in 2013, Durst market launched the Tau 330 UV ink press, and has seen 15 installations worldwide. The company has extended the Tau 330 offering, and will now be also available in the low-migration UV ink version . The low-migration UV ink from Sunjet, according to Helmuth Munter, segment manager, labels & package printing at Durst Phototechnik, meets all the guidelines of the European Printing Ink Assoication and the Swiss Ordnance on Materials & Article legislation and do not use materials specifically excluded on the Nestle Packaging Inks Specification.

“Its perhaps the only seven-colour inkjet UV press on the show,” said Munter. “Depending on the application requirements, Tau 330 users can now chose from the two different Tau UV inkjet inks – the standard UV inkjet ink for all industrial applications or the very new low migration UV inkjet inks suitable for food, healthcare and pharmaceutical applications.”

The Tau 330 uses the Xaar 1001 single pass printheads and features a maximum print width of 330mm and a printing speed of max 48 linear meters (157 linear feet) per minute, reaching an hourly production capacity of 950 sq/m per hour. The standard CMYK configuration can be completed with optional white and two optional process colours – orange and violet, essential for label applications.

The standard UV ink version press can also be run using low migration UV ink, but Munter does not recommend that. “The press will need a thorough clean up for the switch, which may not be full proof, hence not recommended for jobs which involves food packaging.”

Munter said that the new low migration UV ink press will be available worldwide immediately. “Soon we may see one installation in India,” he concluded.
