DMI turns ten

The celebrations will take place at Grafica’s stall at Screen Print India Expo, scheduled for 6-8 May 2016, in Mumbai. DMI’s past workshop participants, customers, dealers, industry associates, and students, will be a part of this.
 
Established in 2006, DMI has created a legacy. The numbers are - around 50 workshops in for screen printing both for value addition and textile applications, more than 25 roadshows across India to promote advanced screen printing process, and hands-on training to more than 1200 print professionals
 
“This has been the most rewarding experience for all of us at DMI,” says Bhargav Mistry, director of DMI. “Increasing awareness among the printing fraternity and educating them about the latest technology developments has been our primary objective. Our attempt has been to raise the knowledge bar of the Indian screen printers.”
 
He added, “With rapid technological changes, there is growing demand for highly skilled workers. DMI is an important educational initiative undertaken by Grafica Flextronica. Training programmes are important tools to ensure that workers have skills that are relevant for available jobs and to facilitate job matching. DMI’s workshops help the companies by upgrading their technical skills to improve quality, productivity, efficiency level of the industry.”
 
The institute has taken screen printing education to the doorsteps of screen printers through a unique educative video film called ‘Screen on Screen’ (SOS), narrating the advantages of automation, applications of screen printing and its process. SOS was screened in as many as 15 towns and cities. DMI followed it up with yet another unique initiative of imparting education by conducting educational campaigns, covering ten cities/towns thus benefiting around 2000 print professionals.

What made the DMI concept more remarkable is the total commitment supported by none other than an equipment manufacturer, dedicated in giving back to the printing community. “DMI’s interactive workshops provide a unique learning experience that bridges the gap from theory to practice, giving participants the skills and knowledge to make a difference. The feedback we have received are a testimony to DMI’s efforts in making Indian screen printing a self reliant,” said Mistry.
 
“We are continuing the era of free training to screen printers with improved facilities for their comforts. We have completed 10 years of imparting education and inspiration to screen printing community. And the journey will continue from hereafter with regular workshops and training on Advanced Screen Printing, Textile screen printing and Print Finishing. DMI's knowledge is a stepping stone for success for many printers. So many customers are now eager to attend DMI workshop,” he said.
 
 
DMI’s activities include
 
·         Workshops for printing professionals. Two types of workshops are conducted – one on textile/garment screen printing and another for commercial/graphics/industrial screen printers.
·         Short term / long term training programmes for printing technology students, including industrial visits.
·         Students' visits to DMI
·         Campus programmes at printing institutes
·         Corporate programmes with custom made practical training
·         Hands on training for customers' operators.
·         Onsite Training at customers place
·         Participation in educational road shows all over India
