For New Delhi-based Avantika Printers winning this year’s Digital Printer of the Year Award made it a two in two years. Winning for the second consecutive year, caught the eyes of the judges with their entries: Canon Media Catalogue for Canon India; and Glimpses of Thar, Suvali and a wall calendar for Cairn India.

The quality of the entries stood out for its creativity and pushed the envelope. The judges noted that Avantika paid close attention to the requirement of its clients. For example, the Canon Media catalogue had to depict the capability of Canon’s Imagepress C7010VP machine to deliver quality on different substrates and image inputs. “Colour consistency had to be maintained,” says Avantika, which according to the company, was maintained through “robust process control” on 27 different substrates giving customised UV treatment on traditional design.

The judges also thought that the Suvali book’s real-time visual feel of offshore drilling in sea grabbed attention. Avantika says, it was created through an innovative digital printing on laminate foil substrate.

The wall calendar’s deceptive look as an LCD panel was the USP of this job. “Easy to change date sheet, fully functional was a modest innovation,” says M N Pandey of Avantika. He adds, “it satisfied the discerning client.”

The print runs for the entries ranged from 30 to 150 copies and were printed using the Canon Imagepress 7010VP machine.

Avantika recently completed 23 years in the print industry. The Canon dominated digital press floor also houses a mono Xerox digital printer for single-colour work, a screen printing facility and a complete facility for post-press, which produces an array of ingenious print jobs.

Delhi-based Avantika Printers has Pandey, a teacher of mathematics in Ayodhya at the helm. A man who is prone to uttering maxims like: “Digital is the grandson of print – and it is definitely the future.”

Pandey believes that four things create a great job. “They are men, machines, implementation of the latest technologies,” and as he says, “above all, the vision of the head of the organisation.”
