The thermal platesetter has been supplied by Insight Print Communications, which also supplies Electra XD plates to feed the 8-up size Trendsetter.

Ashwani Bhanot, owner of Vats Pac, said: "We opted for CTP because of quality production and the premium jobs we do. Earlier we printed up to 170lpi ruling but now we can achieve a ruling of up to 210/240lpi with the CTP."

The company specialises in commercial and packaging printing and converts around three tonnes of paper and packaging board per day. Vats Pac, a pre-owned all-Heidelberg print shop, has a five-colour press including online IST interdeck UV coater capable of printing on a wide variety of substrate including flexible substrates like met-pet, polyester, canvas and sunscreen; a four-colour press and a mono press.

"My printing presses are pre-owned and are picked up from printing presses in Europe," he said. Besides the Heidelberg presses, Vats has installed EFI colour management software and Epson 7900 for proofing. It also provides bar-coding services and has two HP printers.

Post-press includes cutting machines from Polar, folding machines from MBO and Shoie and Indian-made wire-o-binding, die-cutting and lamination machines.

"We believe in quality. Volume is secondary for us. Our strategy is to have excellent printing technology and our services are being provided to the client by keeping in mind their budgetary constraints and promotional requirements," said Bhanot.

An ISO 9001:2008 certified printing firm, Vats operates round the clock at its 14,000 sq/ft site. The firm hit a turnover of Rs 9-crore in the year 2010-11 and is aiming to double the turnover in 2011-12.
