Paramount which shifted base to Bhiwandi in 2007 from Mazgaon in South Mumbai due to space constraints has gradually equipped its new 24,000 facility with state-of-the-art equipments to cater to pharmaceutical packaging. 95% of its business is for pharma companies namely Cipla etc. and 5% would be for FMCG. Since this shift, Paramount has clocked an increase in 700% on their turnovers.

Also, Paramount’s 70% of the business is into exports. “Looking at the export parameters, for any printer to export pharmaceutical packages, braille printing is a key,” said Surendra Tulsiyan, director at Paramount. Braille is a combination of six dots which constitute the alphabets (A-Z) and numericals. “Even if one of these dots is lost during post-press operation, its a big loss for the company,” he added.

He further added, “It felt appropriate to make the purchase of Accubraille since the machine prevents such irregularities and checks and rejects if any such defects occur in braille."

"Also going forward, it will be mandatory for packaging companies into exports to opt for such a solution to be more cost-efficient."

Paramount’s stable consists of a six-colour, a five-colour and a single-colour Heidelberg machines. Offline aqua and UV coaters, Bobst automatic punching machines and six semi-automatic die-cutters, three lamination machines and one acme folder-gluer strengthen Paramount’s post-press section.

The company has also opted for a made to order inspection system from Coimbatore-based Autoprint to boost its pharmaceutical packaging printing business. The machine will be installed soon.
