New bank note printing line at Dewas with anti counterfeiting features

The new bank note printing line at Dewas commissioned KBA dry offset printing press including numbering, cutting, packaging and finishing machines to produce the final form of currency notes.

For the new line, machines worth Rs 233 crore have been purchased. The on-line printing and finishing equipments are designed to enable incorporation of sophisticated print-based security features which will help in reducing counterfeiting of currency notes. With the new printing line, the note printing speed is anticipated to increase by 20 to 25 percent.

Pranab Mukherjee, union finance minister, Government of India, said: “I am told that in order to bring further efficiency and transparency in SPMCIL, SAP Enterprise Resource Planning has been introduced and implemented in all the units of SPMCIL. The corporation has an investment plan of about Rs 2,500 crore covering the period 2009 to 2014.”

Dewas currency note printing press was established in 1975 and prints currency note of Rs 20, 50 and 100. The bank note press has 2,000 employees. The press has received awards like National Safety Award since 1996 consecutively, the latest being the 15th National Safety Award in 2011.

Besides Dewas, Indian currency notes are printed in Nasik, Mysore and Salboni (West Bengal). Mysore and Salboni units come under Reserve Bank of India. And Dewas and Nasik units function under security, printing and minting corporation India.
