Ayushmann Khurrana dons printer’s hat; Lucknow printer shares the limelight

It’s not every day that we see a movie star visit a printer. So it was a predictable roadblock when the up and coming Bollywood heartthrob Ayushmann Khurrana dropped by at the premises of Printart Offset in Lucknow on 7 and 15 November.

The actor was, of course, shooting for his new flick Bareily Ki Barfi. In the film, we have heard, Khurrana’s character owns a printing press. More powers to printers!

The film, a ‘romantic comedy’ directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari of Nil Battey Sannata fame, also stars Rajkumaar Rao as an author and Kriti Sanon as the female lead.

We do not have the details of the plot, but we are guessing in the movie, Rao’s author would visit Khurrana’s establishment to publish a book and there, both men will fall in love with the same girl. You know, Bollywood!

Reports say the plot revolves around Sanon’s character, whose family owns a mithai shop. Hence the title.

Back to reality, Printart Offset is owned by Arun Kumar Jaggi, who also happens to be the vice-president of Lucknow Printers Association. And, if Khurrana’s character Chirag Dubey knows anything about printing, it’s thanks to Jaggi, who has been a Lucknow resident for the last 40 years. In a news report, Khurrana said that he used to observe Jaggi to understand the latter’s body language and how he managed the 10-12 people working with him. However, the actor did not get into the technicalities and only know how to switch the machines on and off.

A film crew of total 180 people were on location for the shoot

Meanwhile, as the actor loves his sarson da saag and rajma chawal, Jaggi’s wife Sapna cooked the dishes for him every alternate day.

Some claim this is the first film to feature a printing press owner as the lead. But this is not true. For example, Dadasaheb Phalke in the Marathi film

Harishchandrachi Factory was a printer. So was Raja Ravi Varma in Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya.

The film is being produced by Junglee Pictures and BR Studios.
