This is the second Knowledge Centre in the world - the first one being in China.

Anil Sharma, managing director at Avery Dennison, said, “Anybody who wants to see a flexography plant looks like or operates like can come here. Every aspect of flexo printing can be studied here. This was the design principle which we set-up. If someone wants to invest in a flexo-based print plant  this is the ideal platform whereby he can get an idea for a future blue-print.”

Sharma added, “It’s not only about setting up the plant but also the technicalities and commercial aspects which play an important part in decision making. The idea is to educate the Indian printer about the best practices in flexography printing.”

Manufacturers and top brands like Gallus, Esko, Flint Group, Dupont, Rotomatrix, Zescher, Registar, Tesa  and Royal Coat have partnered with Avery Dennison for the Knowledge Centre.

Sameer Patkar, managing director at Gallus India, said, “The concept of having a Knowledge Centre was discussed in 2008 and the idea was conceptualised by Raj Srinivasan, the managing director of Avery Dennison at that time. He was keen on starting a Knowledge Centre but soon after he exited Avery Dennison, everything came to a standstill. This idea of setting up of a Knowledge Centre was taken forward by Anil Sharma, the current managing director at Avery Dennison.”

Patkar added, “This Centre will not only provide a platform for the existing label printers to upgrade their knowledge but will also help newcomers with a basic knowledge of flexography printing.”

The event which took place on 17 and 18 August 2012 was attended by more than 40 print buyers and 140 CEOs of print firms. During the two day event, Avery Dennison also announced training programs for print buyers, label printers and the beginners. Besides this a special training module was announced for print and packaging students.
