Avery Dennison, in its 80th year of operation, has expanded its capabilities at the Ranjhangaon plant in Pune with a new coating line IN5, which was officially inaugurated on 12 March 2015.

IN5 is the third coating line at the Pune facility and Avery’s fifth in India. While the first four lines are hotmelt coaters, the latest IN5 is an emulsion coater, which, therefore, enables the company to expand its basket of offerings and explore niche opportunities in the market, which have not been explored so far.

Anil Sharma, vice president and general manager for Avery Dennison Materials Group - South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa at Avery Dennison, said, “The new emulsion coater allows us to produce filmic products, which have far superior performance than paper products. It allows our customers to make products, which gives a ‘no-label’ look and is UV stable and therefore, can be used in external conditions. It brings in capabilities that are complementing what hotmelt platform does and thus allows us to expand the market.”

According to Avery, this investment is consistent with its long-term strategy of providing a full range of label production technologies for the Indian market. “In view of the increasing demand for filmic and emulsion-based products in India, it is imperative that we have a local emulsion capability to support the market’s need,” said Georges Gravanis, vice president and general manager, materials group Asia Pacific.

This is the third expansion at Ranjhangaon in the past five years. After having set up perhaps the country’s largest pressure-sensitive manufacturing facility in Pune in 2008, the company expanded the capacity first in 2010 and then in 2012. In 2012, the labelstock manufacturer also set up an Innovation Centre in Pune and a Knowledge Centre in Bengaluru.
