JC Graphics which started off from printing cinema posters has taken a big leap into packaging printing with the recent install. The recent acquisition of Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 adds to the state-of-the-art pre-press, press and post-press equipments housed by the three-decade old print shop.

Speaking of why they chose Heidelberg, Karunakar and Dinakar, both directors at the firm said, “The Speedmaster CD 102 is a perfect fit to our requirements in packaging. Our first impression of the press at an open house in India was remarkable. Later, a visit to the Heidelberg factory in Germany further reaffirmed our expectations.”

The other reason for JC Graphics to opt for CD 102 is its unique UV coating unit. JC Graphics which has transformed itself into more of a packaging printer requires coating on almost 90% of its jobs.

According to Dinakar, the unique UV coating unit of the Speedmaster CD 102 is fitted with a chambered blade system and it meets the most exacting print-quality and coating requirements, rendering it ideal for the printing needs of the firm. Stating a recent achievement on the new CD102 he said, “A print job on MetPet film cartons using the CD 102 was highly appreciated by our clients.”

Commenting on the recent installation, Saseendran Baskaran, product manager – press solutions, Heidelberg India, said, “The Speedmaster CD 102 is an apt choice for packaging printers in India, as it can process an array of substrates from 0.03 mm paper to 1 mm thick cardboard. The autoplate feature paves way for fast plate changes and short make-ready times, while ventury air transfer system facilitates contact-free sheet travel. A high capacity inking unit ensures stable inking throughout the run. Our Instant Start software minimises waiting times when washing blankets and boosts the productivity specially while running UV jobs. The extensive automation and ergonomic operation of the entire machine deliver optimum efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This makes the Speedmaster CD 102 an ideal investment for the future.

Looking ahead, J C Graphics has plans to phase out some old machines in its printing, die-cutting, lamination and gluing departments, with new-gen replacements.

JC Graphics is also initiating an effort to obtain the ISO 12647-2 certification, and is working with the Heidelberg team to achieve the ISO standards.
