‘Best of the best’ at IndiaStar Awards night on 10 October at Renaissance

IIP instituted the IndiaStar Awards in 1972 to promote and encourage excellence in packaging design, innovation and sustainability. Hosted bi-annually, this Award programme is entrenched and is now rated as the most popular premier event for India’s packaging fraternity.
 
This year, IndiaStar attracted 627 packaging entries. This is a record of nominations in a year, out of which the nine member jury picked ‘the Best of the Best’. The jury day was hosted over a two-phase process at the IIP-Mumbai campus.
 
In addition to a record number of entries, IndiaStar also initiated the Student Category Awards. This was established to capture and recognise the talent of the young people in our industry. Plus, stimulate young people to become future packaging technologists.
 
The IndiaStar Jury members were Dr N C Saha, Director-IIP; Prof P Kumaresan, Professor, IDC, IIT-Mumbai; Prof GG Ray, Professor and Head, IDC, IIT-Mumbai; Prof GG Waghmare, Dean, Sir JJ School of Arts; Kiran Prayagi, Graphic Arts Technology and Education; Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, Retailers Association of India; Dr Tridha Gajjar, Associate Senior Faculty, NID-Ahmedabad; Shireesh Sabnis, Production Controller, Publicis Ambience; and Hemant Ranadive, Production Head, Draft FCB Ulka.
 
The nine member jury panel evaluated the production capabilities and aesthetic quality of the product sample; plus its overall relevance. There were lots of nominations in categories such as consumer package, eco-friendly package, food package, pharmaceutical package, packaging material and adjunct, transport package and packages which were designed by students.
