Giants of the Indian packaging industry – II

The Indian packaging industry is estimated to be worth Rs 1,17,000 crore and India is the sixth biggest packaging market in the world. The top 22 packaging firms in India recorded a total combined revenue of Rs 30,536.60 crore. PrintWeek India looks at titans of the Indian packaging industry in this two part series.

Tinplate
Tinplate Company of India is the largest indigenous producer of tin coated and tin free steel sheets in India. The company exports about 20-25% of its production directly to end-users (can-makers) and its products are well accepted in the markets of South East Asia, Middle East and some developed countries in Europe. Headquartered in Kolkata, the company’s manufacturing plant is located at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. There are presently 11 offices in India and a distribution network with 16 stocking points.

Tinplate has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 259.40 crore and a net profit of Rs 12.86 crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Ester Industries
Ester Industries, established in 1985, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of polyester films and engineering plastic compounds. Ester’s corporate headquarter is located in Gurgaon, Haryana while Ester’s manufacturing facility is located at Khatima, in the state of Uttarakhand.

Ester Industries has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 231.23-crore and a net profit of Rs 0.85-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Garware Polyester
Garware Polyester founded in 1957, developed in-house technology for polyester films in India and built its first state-of-the-art plant to manufacture polyester films 1976 in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Garware Polyester has four manufacturing plants for polyester film and manufactures film of thickness ranging from 10micron to 350micron. The company possesses patented technology for dyed polyester film in India and USA.

Garware Polyester has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 230.18-crore and a net profit of Rs 2.10-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Ess Dee Aluminium
Ess Dee Aluminium consists of the parent company, Division India Foils and its 100% subsidiary, Flex Art Foils. Ess Dee was the first company in India to manufacture dedicated high-end pharmaceutical packaging products like cold form blister and child-resistant-blister packaging. In December 2011, Ess Dee opened a wholly-owned subsidiary in Singapore.

Ess Dee Aluminium has reported a consolidated sales turnover of Rs 176.86-crore and a net profit of Rs 13.82-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Karur KCP Packkagings
Started in 1961 by KC Palanisamy, Karur KCP Packkagings has, over the last 40 years, grown into multi-dimensional and multi-product group. The Tamil Nadu-based company supplies packaging material to major Indian cement industries and also exports its products to USA, Europe and SAARC countries.

Karur KCP Packkagings has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 130.74-crore and a net profit of Rs 1.24-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Everest Kanto Cylinder
Established in 1978, Everest Kanto Cylinder has become one of the pioneers in the development and production of industrial and CNG cylinders with well over 1.5 million high pressure gas cylinders and 6,00,000 CNG cylinders in service and three manufacturing plants in Aurangabad, Tarapur and Gandhidham in India and one each in China, USA, Germany and Middle East (Dubai).

Everest Kanto Cylinder has reported a consolidated sales turnover of Rs 106.57-crore and a net loss of Rs 25.22-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Signet Industries
Signet Industries is part of the Signet Group which has business interests in various sectors with a product lines which include micro irrigation systems, HDPE sprinkler pipe, HDPE pipes and cable duct, PVC pipes and fittings, spray pumps, crates, household moulded products, moulded furniture. The group also has interests in petrochemical and plastic packaging industry.

Signet Industries has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 157.89-crore and a net profit of Rs 2.68-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Neo Corp International
Neo Corp International, since its inception in 1986, is dedicated in making tailor designed products under Packtech. NCIL reached the status of a fore-runner internationally as a reliable supplier of Packtech products. Neo Corp also has a star export house status recognised by the Government of India in view of the company's excellent export performance. It has global presence which pans across five continents and 19 countries.

Neo Corp International has reported a consolidated sales turnover of Rs 180.67-crore and a net profit of Rs 6.65-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Hitech Plast
Hitech Plast is a leading rigid plastic packaging manufacturer – a business to business company. They are engaged in the manufacture and sale of innovative polymer products to industries like paint, personal care, agro chemicals, health care, confectionary, lube and retail household products. The Mumbai-based company has 13 manufacturing plants across the country with a research and development centre in Pune.

Hitech Plast has reported a consolidated sales turnover of Rs 118.03-crore and a net profit of Rs 2.13-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.

Manjushree Technopack
Founded in 1977, Manjushree Technopack started as a small umbrella manufacturing unit in Guwahati, Assam and thereafter in 1984 forayed into manufacturing of flexible plastic packaging. After raising funds for its PET bottle manufacturing unit in Bengaluru, through an IPO in 1995. Today, it is the largest converter of PET and preforms in India with an installed capacity of 30,000 MTPA and caters to the packaging needs of a large section of the FMCG fraternity. Besides PET, Manjushree also manufactures oxygen barrier retortable multilayer and stretch blow moulded bottles - both of which were brought into India for the first time by Manjushree.

Manjushree Technopack has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 106.26-crore and a net profit of Rs 3.41-crore for the quarter ended December 2013. 

TCPL Packaging
TCPL Packaging, (formerly known as Twenty-First Century Printers) is one of India's largest manufacturers of printed folding cartons. TCPL Packaging operates out of its six manufacturing units; three in Silvassa; two in Haridwar; and one in Goa.

TCPL is one of the largest exporters of printed cartons from India. It regularly caters to consumers in countries like UK, Netherlands, UAE, Bangladesh etc. Exports constitute about 22% of TCPL's annual revenues.

TCPL Packaging has reported a standalone sales turnover of Rs 103.86-crore and a net profit of Rs 3.40-crore for the quarter ended December 2013.
