RIPTAA’s Summit’18 focuses on food packaging safety

Regional Institute of Printing Technology Alumni Association (RIPTAA), Kolkata conducted Summit’18 at Science City Mini theatre on 15 August 2018. The event consisted of a technical seminar which was followed by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association.

In his presidential address, Surendra B Dhote of RIPTAA spoke in length about the changing dynamics of the printing industry with the plastic ban in Maharashtra and abolition of anti-dumping duty on digital plates as examples. He pointed out that in spite of all the upheaval, packaging in the country is a key growth area and this can be witnessed at the upcoming PrintPack 2019 show which is expected to have a dedicated hall for corrugation and label industry.

Ramu Ramanathan, editor, PrintWeek India delivered the keynote on the topic of packaging where he highlighted five key areas namely, Effective supply-chain management in F&B packaging, need for luxury sustainable packaging, smart innovation in packaging, innovation in flexible packaging and FSSAI’s targets in five years as pertinent to the growth of the industry in the next few years.

He also stressed on the need for stringent regulation of the packages stating that FSSAI will soon bring into effect new regulations on printing ink and food packaging material by July 2019.

AMSG Ashokan, president, AIFMP, Dayaker Reddy, president, IPAMA, Arvind Mardikar, honorary general secretary, AIFMP, Avinash Kawarkar, COO, TechNova Imaging Systems, Subhrajit Ray, head, workflow solutions, Kodak India and Amitava Chakraborty, DGM sales, Huber Group India were the other speakers at the seminar.

The association also handed out scholarship to three students of RIPT, Jadavpur – one each from printing, photography and multimedia departments. More than 400 alumni across India and abroad are said to have participated in the event.
