Six Indian publications in Wan-Ifra Asian Media Awards

Six Indian publications — India Today, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, The Hindu, Malayala Manorama and HT Media — scored big in Wan-Ifra’s Asian Media Awards. The 17th edition of the Asian Media Awards attracted 435 entries from countries all over Asia and the Middle East. Fifty-eight media companies from 19 countries participated. The Awards will be presented during Publish Asia 2018 on 25 April 2018 in Bali at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua, where the gold, silver and bronze winners will be reveal

India Today received three gongs, two in the Magazine Cover Design category and one in the Magazine Infographics category. In Magazine Cover Design, India Today was selected for the covers ‘China's New Chick’ and ‘How Colas Lost their Mojo’. In Magazine Infographics category, India Today’s entry is ‘Second Strike Capability’. Meanwhile, Living Media India, the publisher of India Today, also scored in the ‘Feature Photography’ category for ‘I Was Sold at 14 as a Sex Slave’.

Malayala Manorama and HT Media, the publisher of The Hindustan Times are in the Best in Photojournalism category, for the photographs, ‘Flight to Life from the Piercing Claws’ and ‘Tears of Loss’ respectively.

Top Hindi dailies Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar both have been awarded in the Best in Community Service category. Dainik Jagran received the award for ‘Till the Penny drops’ campaign while Dainik Bhaskar received the award for ‘Live Positive’ campaign.

Indian newspapers seems to getting very good at marketing, as all the three spots in the  Best in Newspaper Marketing category were taken by Indian newspapers. Dainik Jagran has two entries. One, ‘957 Pages from a Daughter’s Diary by the Future’ and two, ‘Creating the Newspaper of Day after Tomorrow’. THG Publishing completes the category with ‘The Hindu On Sunday’.

Wan-Ifra’s Asian Media Awards aim to promote the highest publishing standards in the fields of newspaper and magazine design, infographics, printing, editorial content, marketing, community service and photojournalism.

Hundreds of newspapers and magazines in Asia Pacific, South Asia and Middle-East have taken part in the competition over the last fifteen years, establishing the Asian Media Awards as the most prestigious recognition of excellence for the news publishing industry in the region.

Publish Asia 2018, taking place in Bali, Indonesia, on 24-26 April 2018, will gather over 400 media executives from across Asia. The event will offer a series of masterclasses and conference sessions with a focus on strengthening print in the digital era. It will provide key insights on how to keep innovating in print without missing out the key transformations that are required to prepare for a digital-centric future.
