Canpac set to roll out folding carton business with new investments

Canpac Multiply, the corrugation box specialist, has added capacity to produce folding cartons with the installation of a KBA 106, a seven-colour press with coater, a Wen Chyuan lamination machine and a fleet of punching and folder-gluer machines.

Canpac Multiply is a division of Ahmedabad-based Canpac Trends, which specialises in carton packaging, and has been in operation for the last three years.
 
In early 2015, Canpac Multiply began operating the 1.25-lakh sq/ft full-fledged automated corrugated carton production plant near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The high speed 150 meters per minute line produces three-ply and five-ply corrugated investment boxes. It has two Taiwan-make high-speed corrugation line, along with a single two-colour and a single four-colour flexo press with a rotary die-cutter, a Bobst folder-gluer and other finishing machinery.
 
Canpac Coimbatore unit today converts over 1,000 tonnes of paperboard per month to produce duplex board and corrugated boxes and has a capacity to convert 1,500 tonnes per month.
 
“As we have grown, we found that we are in a position to expand our portfolio to add the UV and conventional folding carton vertical to our existing business in South. So when we saw an opportunity to pass the folding carton work through the plant, we took it,” said Nilesh Todi, the managing director at Canpac Multiply.

The company will target the South Indian textile market, FMCG, pharma, automobile and the food and beverage segments.
 
The KBA 106 is a fully-loaded combi UV press with interdeck UV dryer and IR/hot air dryer, a delivery extension of 2.4 meters, has an ink calibrator, a fully automatic plate changer and is ACR equipped.
 
Aditya Surana, director of Indo Polygraph Machinery, the Indian representative of KBA said he was happy to be part of the Canpac business. “The decision-makers knew what they want, and it was a well thought out decision. The KBA press installed is running at a full speed, and is as good as any in the country,” he said.
 
Canpac is set to commence its multi-direction expansion in packaging at its Bavla unit in Gujarat, including corrugated boxes, all under one-roof.
