Canon notches a hundred with installation at Dharam Reprographics

17 Aug 2012 |  Supreeth Sudhakaran   |   Comment Now

Canon installed its hundredth colour Imagepress 7010 VP in India at Dharam Reprographics unit in Okhla in New Delhi.

The press was inaugurated an hour ago on 17 August by Dr Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice president for Canon India.

The Canon C7010VP which is capable of printing on coated as well as uncoated paper ranging from 60 gsm to 325 gsm offers value-added features such as variable data printing at 1,200 x 1,200 dots per inch resolution.

Speaking a few days prior to the inauguration to PrintWeek India, Dr Bharadwaj was bullish about Canon's fortunes in India. He said, "In 2011, Canon India crossed the Rs 100-crore business in the wide-format and commercial printing; including Canon and Oce. Almost 50-50%. This domain of ours is very critical for Canon’s business in India."

He added, "Rs 100-crore is a game-changing milestone. We are very happy that we crossed Rs 100-cr last year. With Oce continuous feed, we have entered into a new business. And once it takes off, there will be no looking back."

Bharadwaj is seeing growth in the number of end-users. He said, "Last six months have been phenomenal. Although, there is a certain depressed consumer and investor sentiment, inflation is causing a pain point. The surge in digital printing is far too stronger than a temporary set-back due to the economic slowdown."

Dharam Digital Press is a sister company of Amit Electostat. The latest installation, which takes the count to five, makes Dharam Digital the biggest customer of Canon.

Virender Kasana, the owner of the firm, said: "We needed new machines as we sold out some of our old digital printing presses. The work is increasing at a good rate and the click charges offered by Canon along with direct finance facility, prompted us to opt for it."

Kasana brothers, Virender and Mahendra head five digital printing companies.

"2008 and 2011 were the best year for us in terms of buying the equipment to feed the working that we were getting. Our target with newly installed machines is to increase our print run from five lakh to seven lakh colour A3 sheets per month and we are expecting around 15% annual growth," said Virender.

Now, Amit Electrostat has four sister concerns including Dharam Reprographic, Verma Electrostat, Sumit Fax and Dharam Digital Press.

The printing facilities except the Dharam Digital Press are based in Nehru Place and Dharam is based out of Okhla Industrial Area, New Delhi.
