Update on NBPC in Kerala as Jak Printers confirms participation

PrintWeek India Book Printer of the Year 2011, Jak Printers, has confirmed its presence as a delegate at India's first National Book Printer's Conference (NBPC) to be held from 17 to 19 November at Thiruvanthapuram in Kerala.

The three-day event is being supported by Welbound and Henkel CAC India. It will consist of knowledge seminars and panel discussions which have been conceptualised by PrintWeek India.

Professor Werner Rebsamen will be the keynote speaker on day one of the event.

Top book printer-exporters and key publishers from India will participate in a panel discussions on both the days. Manipal Technologies, Lovely Offset, IPP, Gopsons, Replika Press, Repro India, Thomsons Press and MultiVista Global have confirmed their presence at NBPC 2011 along with other 100 plus book printers, book publishers and government delegates who have already registered for the conference. The panel discussions will be conducted by Ramu Ramanathan, group editor, Campaign India and PrintWeek India.

Ramanathan said: "The panel discussions (on day one with book printers and on d ay two with key publishers and decision makers) will address a range of important issues which can enable including legislative, market and technical topics as well as recent developments affecting the rapidly growing book printing industry. As a run up to the conference, we hope to produce a standard processing written document with the broad objective of promoting and bettering the interests of the Indian book print firms and their exports."

"The first NBPC will be packed with factory visits, machine demos, conversations, keynotes, tech presentations with the brightest minds from the book manufacturing industry in India, " said P Sajith, Welbound Worldwide.

As a run up to the conference, NBPC hopes to produce a standard processing written document with the broad objective of promoting and bettering the interests of the Indian book print firms and their exports.  A working draft of the written document will be prepared that shall be handed over to a high-ranking government representative; and circulated within the print industry.  

This apart from expected takeaways like meeting the leading book printer exporters from India and learn from their experiences; getting to know international trends;  u nderstanding cost efficient methods of book production; awareness on best practices and their benefits; comprehending the advantages of training manpower; meeting the important book print industry partners in India - discuss requirements and find solutions; and more.

"The objective is simple: to make India the largest book print exporter by 2017," added Sajith.

  • Akshay Pathak, director GBO (Frankfurt Book Fair) speaking on markets to tap for exports and how to participate effectively in trade fairs
  • Capexil on  support for book print exports and information on marketing
  • Michael Euler, managing director Wohlenberg  on – how to manufacture adhesive bound books, cost-efficiently
  • Thomas Auris, Henkel Asia on – emerging trends in the world book production
  • Anil Krishna, Henkel India on – how to reduce your cost of production  
  • Peter Geyger - PUR technology
  • Arvind Kalassur (WTS) on – reliability centred maintenance (RCM) on – a perspective from bookbinding
  • John Finn, managing director Deluxe Stitching, UK on – basics of saddle stitching
  • SvenSchubert of Baumann & Wohlenberg group on paper handling systems - how to increase efficiency, reduce costs and have happy employees.
