‘World of Learning’ at Frankfurt Book Fair 2017

The international educational sector will be making an innovative, multifaceted and digital appearance at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2017 under the title “World of Learning”.

Highlights in Hall 4.2 will include sofa talks and workshops on the future of learning in “World of Learning Lab”. At the weekend, together with interested private visitors, experts such as Jens Mönig (SAP), Armin Himmelrath (SPIEGEL Online), Oliver Rohrbeck, the German Library Association, Jugend Hackt and the Chaos Computer Club will present topics such as fake news, coding and adaptive learning. One special event will be a virtual dive at a coral reef using VR goggles. This interactive ideas laboratory on the future of learning is being organised by the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG).

Wikipedia at the book fair
Who is behind the more than 39 million articles in the world’s largest encyclopaedia? At the book fair, visitors can watch firsthand as international Wikipedia authors go to work. Authors will be photographed in a professional photo studio, and new articles and translations will appear during the German-French “Ediathon”.

Blogger camp and Hate Speech Bingo
Over five days, bloggers from the Berlin-based Blogfabrik will be giving workshops and presentations on the skills needed in the digital sphere. At Hate Speech Bingo, which will take place on Sunday, participants will examine sexist, racist and homophobic posts in the web. Network activists will present “Best of Hate” selections and discuss strategies for dealing with Internet trolls.

Programme for students on pop-up campus
At the weekend, the book fair will be transformed into a pop-up campus, which will kick off on Saturday with a breakfast, open to everyone. Publishers will be presenting a multifaceted programme for students on the stage of the Hot Spot Professional & Scientific Information.

Science Busters at the Science & Education Forum
Cabaret performer Martin Puntigam, astronomer Florian Freistetter and microbiologist Helmut Jungwirth will answer fundamental questions about life on earth. In their cabaret performance, the Science Busters demonstrate that science and humour actually go hand in hand – experiments included.
