Hall 1 may as well be renamed the Heidelberg Hall. The theme is economy and ecology, and Heidelberg’s entire exhibit is carbon neutral – it’s also giving a second life to used printing plates by utilising them to create signage and graphics around the hall.

At the pre-Drupa press event in Israel on 13 March 2012, HP unveiled its next generation B2 digital press HP Indigo 10000, a seven-colour 29-inch sheetfed press that prints at speed of 3,450 sheets per hour. The machine was a part of HP’s ten new digital printing systems that were introduced in Israel, all of which will be showcased at the HP’s 4,952 sq/metres stand at Drupa 2012.

India Printing Works celebrates 80 years with a round-table discussion among Marathi publishers. Anand Limaye, owner of IPW felt it was important that the sale of Marathi books compete with that of other regional languages. India Printing Works established the name for perfection, accuracy and punctuality with being a pioneer to invest in new technologies. The press started on a small scale in a 500 sq/ft unit, and gradually acquired half the portion of the ground floor of the same building.

From 5 March to 15 March 2012, Welbound Technical Services trained the operators and maintenance engineers of Thomson Press, Faridabad on the Muller Martini Acoro A7, thereby starting a system of offering training on machines, independent of brands, in the book print industry in India. The training was conducted by Arvind Kalasur of Welbound Technical Services. At the end of the training program, there was a one day session for the management and technical team of Thomson Press on book binding

Print Yatra, organised by PrintWeek India was conducted on 25 February 2012. Route one included top-notch firms like: Parksons Graphics in Andheri, Dhote Offset Technokrafts in Jogeshwari, New Jack Printing Press in Goregaon and Mail Order Solutions in Malad. Route two included an exciting mix of boutique firms: Prodon in Lower Parel, Jak Printers in Byculla and Sahaya Print Services in LowerParel.

The sixth edition of Print Summit concluded on 24 February. The two day conference was attended by around 350 delegates. 51 print CEOs, tech-gurus, industry leaders and top print buyers were a part of the panel discussions spread over a period of two days.

PrintWeek India organised a visit for students of Department of Communication and Journalism from Mumbai University to Malyala Manorama's printing facility in Kerala. According to the IRS Q4 reports, Malyala Manorama holds the fourth number among the top ten dailies in the country. The newspaper has registered a readership of 99.12 lakh, the highest among the Malyalam dailies.

The NBPC core committee's second round of meeting in Delhi on 16th January 2012 focussed on agreement of taking ahead the Book Print City initivative. The meeting saw an agreement from book printers like Repro India, Gopsons Papers, Thomson Press, and Replika Press of the scope in India book exports which curently stands at 225 million US$ as opposed to the world book export market of 40 billion US$.

The 17th Photofair exhibition, held from 5-8 January, 2012 concluded with an extimated 1,00,000 visitors turnout, according to reports. Spread across 20,000 sq/ft at Hall 1 of NSE Ground in Goregaon, Mumbai, the show saw print service providers like Canvera, Perfact, Colo Color, SRK, Mazda Imaging and digital press manufacturers and suppliers HP, Kodak, Epson, MGI represented by Aura Print Solutions and Mehta Cad Cam operating in the photo-album segment.

Mail Order Solutions (MOS) invested in the brand-new Heidelberg equipment which consists of two four-colour SM74, one two-colour SM74 sheetfed press, two Polar 115 cutting machines and one Stahl folder. The machines which arrived at JNPT Port near Navi Mumbai from Germany were transported in trucks and were brought in at MOS plant in Malad, Mumbai.
